Description: This species is small/medium sized at about 22mm. It is mainly light gray with multiple darker gray scalloped lines that continue from the forewing to the hind wing. There is a darker brown patch along the leading edge of the forewing that often surrounds one or more lighter gray markings.
Similar species: Xanthorhoe algidata is similar but the dark patch generally bisects the entire forewing instead existing only near the leading edge, and the scalloped lines are much lighter.
North American Range: Across Canada, along the Great Lakes states and central Appalachia.
VA Observations by Locality: Smyth
Flight season and broods: May - July in northern parts of its range. Possibly two broods (May-June, Sep-Oct) further south.
Habitat and Food Plants: Currently undocumented.
